Do you receive remuneration, commission, fees or other benefits in relation to providing the financial services to me?
Commissions on new products were outlawed several years ago. We will charge you a fee, that you agree to, prior to providing the service to you. We are currently revising our client service packages to meet with new regulations that are yet to be announced. In the meantime, we offer a comprehensive Gold Class Service or an Annual Review Service for those clients who need less hands on, less frequent service.
Should I just get advice from my industry super fund?
Most of the time your industry super fund is only authorised to give you advice about their super fund. They are unlikely to take into account your complete financial position such as non-super savings and debt management such as mortgage. They are usually not allowed to offer you any Fund other than their own, which means the advice is bias and may not be in your best interest. A holistic approach financial advice means that all of your circumstances will be taken into consideration. That’s what LFS does.
My parents told me to just pay off my mortgage first. Isn’t that what I should do?
Possibly. The thing about personal financial advice is that it is tailored to your needs and your circumstances and your objectives. These are different to your parent’s and your friend’s. Only after a comprehensive analysis of your position is conducted can personal advice be given.
I want to save for the future in a long term investment. Why shouldn’t I just buy a selection of “blue chip” shares?
“Blue Chip” is probably one of the most inappropriately and over-used phrases when talking about investment. If you go back to prior to the 1987 stock market crash, the stocks that were classed as “blue chip” then fell by some of the largest margins. Even bank stocks can take a dive if conditions dictate. There is risk in investing, even at the bank, the risk of not making enough interest to meet your goals is still a risk. Australia makes up less than 5% of global stock markets. The range of industries listed on the ASX is limited and there are fewer manufacturing companies than ever before still listed in Australia. A good, well-structured investment portfolio will take into account all investment market sectors, domestic and global, including cash, fixed interest, shares, property and infrastructure. Most individuals do not have the expertise or financial resource to invest into every market without using professionals to do so.
What will the first meeting with an LFS adviser cost me?
The initial meeting with one of LFS’s advisers is free from both cost and obligation. At the meeting you will be given the opportunity to discuss your needs, establish your financial lifestyle goals and learn about some of the concepts and strategies LFS can provide you with. At the end of the meeting you can choose whether or not to have a personal financial plan (Statement of Advice) prepared for you or not. The cost of the Statement of Advice will depend on the complexity of your circumstances and will also be advised to you at the first meeting.
How do I know LFS are any good?
LFS has been providing advice to clients for over 30 years. Their new clients come to them predominantly by word-of-mouth referral from existing clients. Most of LFS’s clients stay with them until death, referring their own children to LFS for advice also. A business does not last in the Financial Planning sector if they do not have the right client focussed service and advice. LFS success is built on their relationships with their clients, with many becoming close friends.
Are you a bank or related to a bank?
LFS is not a bank. We do not have a banking licence and we are not owned by a bank in any way. We are a privately owned company that selects products based on the merits of those products.
